1st Realtime 3D excursion

My first paid contract in the realm of realtime 3D and AR delivery

1st Realtime 3D excursion

March 2019; I was so excited when I won this contract; my first toe dipped into the world of realtime 3D. A chance to explore the production processes involved and investigate which software I wanted to adopt into my pipeline and which were extraneous.

The range of models to create were all tech adapter type gizmos and of a small size. I opted to begin the modelling process in Zbrush, then transferred across to C4D to check dimensions and do the UV edit. I then returned to Zbrush to do a higher resolution pass over the model to give me a normal map and a height map.

Within Substance Painter, I began learning some new skills. To which I can humbly say, I continue to learn from to this day! I love this package and constantly look for opportunities to further my knowledge of its capabilities.

I had some interesting challenges when it came to getting the model to look good in Microsoft’s Powerpoint. There were very few environmental controls for lights or skies, and the specular controls were lacking too in PPT at that point; it may have changed now. So I spent a fair time adjusting the material textures in substance, then back into C4D to re-FBX and check. The process was somewhat long-winded and cumbersome. Thankfully, it’s times like that where one learns, which leads then too, hopefully, a more streamlined and efficient process! One things for sure, strict naming conventions are so helpful when moving between multiple bits of software!

A more advanced realtime project can be seen  on my post titled Intelligent Realities GoBuild app. Another example is the Home Kitchen post.
